SO EXCITED AND I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT...etc

I found out today that my gingerbread house from last year made it to the favourites on Martha's blog.  I tried to phone everyone I knew but they were all busy!  So I had to make do with jumping and screaming in front of the kidlets!
I have been spurred on to finish this years gingerbread which is sitting without decoration or roof on top of my fridge!

On a separate note apologies for the lack of blogs but I am manically busy with fairs and radio slots.
You can listen again to last weeks here.  I come on about two hours in. I was talking about decorating the Christmas cake and making mincemeat.

I am hoping for a Christmas giveaway soon!

BOOK CLUB CAKE OF THE MONTH.

You may recall that I'm in a book club and endeavour to produce baked goods for the gathering, relevant to the book we are reading.  See here for last months offering.
This month book was 'Room' by Emma Donoghue.
It was inspired (the author says 'triggered') by the notorious Fritzel case which makes it sound a lot more morbid than you would think.  Although I have to admit the begining was a difficult read and at one point I wasn't sure if I could read on but I was glad I did. For me it was more of a novel about motherhood than something more salacious.  If you have read Lionel Shriver's "We Need To Talk About Kevin" it was reminiscent of that.
As a group we gave it our highest mark out of ten so far.
I was hard pushed to find a cake in such dark material but at one point there is talk of a banana chocolate birthday cake.  So this is what I made and it was very gooey moist and delicious!

Next month is Freedom by Johnathan Franzen.
I'm two thirds the way through and somewhat at a loss!  If you've read it I'd be grateful for hints.

HARVEST HOME

A few weeks ago we made a trip to my parents house in the north so Mr Lemon Drizzle and I could attend the wedding of some friends.

They have a small field which they have turned from a local rubbish dump into a beautiful garden.
We were lucky to visit at harvest time and I managed to snatch a few pictures.

The kidlets spent a few idylic hours podding the last of the bean harvest.  It was so sweet that they were soooo excited and kept coming to me with pots of beans so I could see their progress.

You can see some beautiful Autumn pictures of their garden on my Mum's blog here.

On a seperate note don't forget to tune in to Lorna Milton's show on Three Counties radio at 4pm to hear my recipe for Christmas cake!
